Are Smartphone's the Saviour for Tech Savvy Mums?

We recently decided to hold a competition to give away an Isoki Petite Traveller to the 5 lucky fans who could most creatively tell us what they would pack inside their Petite Traveller for a quick trip out. When sifting through the fabulous entries there are two things which became clear...

  1. Our creative Facebook fans LOVE Isoki!
  2. They also love their iPhones!!

With entry after entry mentioning iPhones, Blackberries or PDA’s we began to ask ourselves....Are Smartphone’s the saviour for technologically savvy mums? And for those of us who are perhaps...less “with it” in terms of technology, do we even know what our phones are capable of?

Parenting – Ages and Stages, a free iPhone application was recently launched to provide parents with up to date tips and age-targeted information for their children. After customising the app, by inputting the age of your child, it is able to deliver relevant information and topical news articles based on their age and stage of development. With the network of mothers (and fathers!) using this application in the millions, the virtual “mothers group” it creates allows busy parents to have information at their fingertips regardless of their location.

For new mothers, trying to adapt to a life of 2 hourly feeds is hard enough! Trying to remember the time of the last feed or how much your baby drank becomes impossible...and then the question...Which side did I nurse on last??
Applications like Baby Activity Logger and Baby Tracker allow you to do just that! Both contain features which allow you to keep track of your nursing sessions with just a few clicks. You can now do away with all of your post it notes, stop-watches and safety pins in your bra, or mismatched ribbons and nursing bracelets! The programs work for breast feeding or bottle feeding routines and allow you to obtain a summary of your activity in case you need to show your doc.
If you’re still in the planning stages, never fear! There are applications to help pregnant women find their way. Written in conjunction with doctors and mothers, the Australian version of Sprout gives advice based on guidelines set by the Royal Australian and New Zealand college of Obstetricians and Gynaecologists. Keeping track of doctors appointment and due dates is easy, it even provides you with a 3D image of what your child looks like at each stage of development.
Are you still deciding on a name? There are too many free applications to name with each possessing slightly different features however they all provide a large pool of choices for expectant mums and dads. With My Baby’s Name from What to Expect, a simple shake of your iPhone brings up a random selection of names, while Baby Names Plus allows you to search by origin or meaning.

Now the big question....which phone cover matches best with your Isoki nappy Bag? Well that depends....are you sporting a Sorrento Spray 3 in 1, or are you a Venetian Lace lover? Unfortunately ladies, we don’t have an application to help you for this, but we trust your judgement!
