Baby Name Trends for 2012 – Girls

As we near the end of 2011, it’s a great time to reflect on the year. The popularity of baby names, just like everything else in the world, is subject to a rise and fall in popularity due to the year’s trends. Many of us ignore the lists and choose names which are already in our family, or have particular sentimental meaning. While others like to keep an eye on what’s hot and what’s not in the world of names!

When we were naming our business, we decided to be a little abstract when we chose the word “Isoki”. The word Isoki comes from an African word meaning “a beautiful gift”. We chose this particular word because we believe that a child is the most beautiful gift in the world.

When we look back on 2011, what were the names that hit the top of the popularity list and why?

Trends are staying constant amongst the girls list with the top 10 looking pretty much the same as it has for the past few years, with some movement amongst the leaders.

On the horizon for 2012 we can expect to see a spate of babies with monikers like Noble, Brave, Strong, Loyal and Loving. The surge in “adjective names” can be attributed to celebs such as Macy Gray, who has a ‘Happy’, Adam Sandler - ‘Sunny’, and Forrest Whittaker - ‘True’.

Queen of pop Beyonce Knowles is due to give birth in February of 2012, and it’s a fair bet that whatever names she chooses will skyrocket to the top 10 list for 2012. We’ll just have to wait and see!
