Baby's First Birthday

Your baby’s first birthday is always a special event! Not only is it a fun gathering of your close family and friends, but it’s a great time to give yourself a pat on the back. You made it through the first year!

With a one year old in tow sometimes it’s difficult to get time to wash your hair, let alone plan a fabulous party! The beauty of a first birthday however is that your bub is still at the closely-attached-to-Mum stage, so the best way you can make this a special day is just by doting on them with loads of undiluted attention! Don’t feel the pressure to invite the whole neighbourhood, you can easily keep a first birthday intimate, this is a party that grandparents will not want to miss, cameras at the ready! Most first birthday parties are really for the adults anyway, so keep it to a manageable number of guests so that you are free to mingle and care for your birthday baby at the same time!
Other great tips for the day include;

  • Holding your party on the weekend as it usually works better for parents and other adults,
  • Plan your party for either late morning or late afternoon to allow for the birthday baby’s nap times, and
  • Keep the party short and sweet. A couple of hours is about all a one-year-old can handle without getting overwhelmed and becoming grumpy.

Even though they won’t necessarily be able to remember it, doesn’t mean that you can’t treat the birthday baby with a gorgeous gift! There is no need to go crazy; but having a cute party outfit is a great start. The ISOKI Reversible Smockette Set is a great way to dress up any outfit and will protect clothes from any spills or accidents that will inevitably happen! Available in a range of colours, the smockette is a great alternative to a bib, and really....who wants to see an old bib in the hundreds of photos that we KNOW you’re going to take on the day!
Another great idea for a memorable gift is to create a time capsule for you child. Record some great videos or get guests to write thoughtful messages on pieces of paper. Questions like;

  • My hopes and dreams for you are...
  • You make me smile when you....
  • What I think you will be when you grow up...
  • I love you because...

will make for some gorgeous heartfelt  keepsakes. All you need to do is stash them away for a special day in the future like a 16th or 18th birthday.
Above all just remember, by keeping the party simple you will enjoy it too. And our last tip? Don’t forget to plan some special quiet time at the end of the day, just for Mum, Dad, and baby!
