Great Apps for Toddlers and Young Children

If you have any one of today’s Smartphone’s, your will know that it’s not just a phone. Possessing the ability to keep a toddler amused and quiet for the length of time it takes an adults to enjoy a meal in a restaurant, Smartphone apps aren’t just a distraction. Today's toddlers are already technologically savvy. So which are the most engaging and educational apps for toddlers?

The Wheels on the Bus - As far as bed time (or day time) stories go, this one is a winner! Though more of a modern interpretation of the well known song from which it takes its name, this app is amazingly animated and highly interactive. From spinning the wheels to swishing the wipers, there is plenty for children to poke and slide and they'll love the music (even if you don’t!).

My Very First App – Centred around the beautiful artwork of Eric Carle (of The Very Hungry Caterpillar fame) My Very First App is a game of match with three levels of difficulty. Easy involves matching colours to objects of the same colour (matching the colour yellow with a picture of lemons), medium is a memory game where kids turn over cards to pair colours, and hard combines the two, with a memory game where colours must match the objects. With creative imagery created by Carle, this app is a great memory test for the young!

Cut the Rope - An adorably ugly monster named Om Nom has to solve puzzles, using special tools like pulleys and catapults, and catch stars in order to score candy. This is the app that will keep your toddler occupied for a very long time on that interstate trip Its bright animated graphics will appeal to toddlers, but its intense playability will hook parents in too, whether they intended it to or not! It may even give your kids a subliminal physics lesson along the way?! It’s a great one for developing logic.

Talking Tom Cat – This free app may not be as educational and rewarding as other apps on the market, but boy is it sure to give your kids the giggles! When kids talk to Tom he'll repeat whatever they say, albeit in a slightly more silly-sounding voice. If they ignore him he'll yawn nonchalantly at them, which may prompt them to pull his tail or poke him in the head, belly or feet.
