High Fashion over High Tea

First made popular in the 1800's the practice of high tea is creeping classily back into vogue. The historically elegant ritual of enjoying tea in fine china cups alongside delicate savoury and sweet morsels was initially employed to fill the void between lunch and dinner. Nowadays we hardly need an excuse to enjoy the finer things in life and high tea gives us the perfect excuse to dress up and look fabulous for a day outing!

A common conundrum for ladies reviving this almost forgotten trend, is what one is supposed to wear to such a fabulous occasion?! Don't dust off your bustle, instead, accessorise a fabulous frock with a few key items.
A pretty patterned scarf, some sultry shades....think Audrey Hepburn in Breakfast at Tiffany and your most important accessory... A statement making bag from Isoki! There is never a right or wrong option, but we love the Reversible Hobo Bag in The Avenue for its retro print in black and dark pebble colouring, reminiscent of the emblematic Fleur-de-Lis.
Want to take things to the next level? Here are some high tea tips for the purist's among us!
Tea cups with a handle are held by placing your fingers to the front and back of the handle with your pinkie up to aid balance.

Do not stir your tea! Instead use your tea spoon in sweeping circular motions. Place your tea spoon at the six o'clock position and softly fold the liquid towards the twelve o'clock position two or three times.
Never leave your tea spoon in your tea cup. When not in use, place your tea spoon on the right side of the tea saucer.
The only time a saucer is raised together with the teacup is when you are standing.
When serving lemon with tea, lemon slices are preferable, not wedges. Be sure never to add lemon with milk since the lemon's citric acid will cause the proteins in the milk to curdle!

So dust off your scone baking skills, pick up your classic Isoki and start sipping!
