What's in a Name? Popular Boys Names 2010
As we near the end of 2010, it’s a great time to reflect on the year that was. What trends did we fall victim to (kitten heals and ill fitting jumpsuits, we’re taking to you!), and what fads did we let sweep us off our feet (Twilight anyone)?
Baby names, just like everything else in the world, are subject to a rise and fall in popularity due to the years trends. Many of us ignore the lists and choose names which are already in our family, or have particular sentimental meaning. While others like to keep an eye on what’s hot and what’s not in the world of names!
When we were naming our business, we decided to be a little abstract when we chose the word “Isoki”. The word Isoki comes from an African word meaning “a beautiful gift”. We chose this particular word because we believe that a child is the most beautiful gift in the world.
When we look back on 2010, what were the names that hit the top of the popularity list and why?
Twilight Fever
Successfully revamping the name Edward and pushing Jacob further into popularity, Twilight fever has definitely been caught by many mums!
Celebrity Baby Names
Making a mark in showbiz and also on the baby name list for 2010 were Anthony, Mason, Brody, Chace, Jonah, Jonas, Penn, Sebastian, Tristan and Gavin.
Religious and Biblical Baby Names
For many people around the world, the bible is the single most influential book ever written. As it turns out, the religious text is also the source of many of the most enduring names of all time. Some have been popular for decades, while others have been more obscure, however their popularity has remained constant for years, and was definitely a hit in 2010 with baby boy names such as Aaron, Asher, Gabriel, Joseph, Joshua, Luke, Noah, Solomon, Elijah, Isaac, Jonah and Judah.
Unisex Baby Names
The baby naming craze of unisex names held true for 2010, with names like Hayden, Taylor, Riley, and Peyton. Drawing more attention to this craze are celebrity couples such as Taylor Swift (female teen singer), Taylor Lautner (male Twilight actor), and Hayden Panettiere (female actress) and Hayden Christensen (male actor)...how confusing!
As we near the approach of 2011, with the release of another Twilight flick midway through next year, there are no prizes for guessing that the Twilight fever will come upon us, even in the names game is here to stay!
