What's in a Name? Popular Girls Names 2010

Isoki know how difficult it is to choose a name for your child, so thank goodness you have 9 months to narrow it down! We all remember the difficult but fun process of choosing names, and contemplating them for a few days before they made the short list.

We also found deciding the name for our business was just as tough! As you can see, we decided on “Isoki”, but you may not know why. Like the names we pick for our children, we wanted the name of our company to have a greater meaning also. The word Isoki comes from an African word meaning “a beautiful gift”, and we chose this particular word because we felt that a child is the most beautiful gift in the world.

All parents want to give their baby a perfect name. A name that expresses their family's values, background situations, complements their last name, and suits the personality they project for their baby. However, at the same time, history has shown that the baby names parents choose are strongly influenced by trends. Those trends may come from a wide range of sources, including pop culture, fiction, religion, politics, even the economy! So what influenced baby girls names in 2010? Read on!

Twilight Fever
Crashing into the number one spot for a second year running is Isabella! Also popular are variations on the name such as Bella, Izabella, Isabelle, Isa, Issie, Belle and Izzy.

Celebrity Baby Names
There is no doubt that mums have their fingers on the celebrity pulse with names like Blake, Evangeline, Hayden, January, Leighton, Miley, Scarlett, Taylor, Ryder, Kendra, Isla and Sienna on the rise in 2010. It's interesting to note that Angelina, Jennifer, Lindsay, Paris, and Jessica have all lost popularity over the past five years!

Sibling Names Starting with the Same Letter
We’ll blame the Kardashian’s for this trend – that’s Kris, Kourtney, Kim, Khloé, Kendall and Kylie (poor brother Rob Jr missed out), but they’re not the only ones playing this game. Jim Bob and Michelle Duggar (stars of the show “19 Kids and Counting”)  are parents to Joshua, Jana, John-David, Jill, Jessa, Jinger, Joseph, Josiah, Joy-Anna, Jedidiah, Jeremiah, Jason, James, Justin, Jackson, Johannah, Jennifer, Jordyn-Grace and Josie! What a mouthful!

Most Fashionable Letter
The letter L is by far the most popular letter, with the booming popularity for girls in 2010! Very popular, were names with two L sounds: Lila, Lola, Layla, Leila, Lily, Lillian, Delilah, Tallulah, even Lulu and Lucille.

With 2011 on the horizon, predictions for next year’s big names are: Adele, Alice, Dorothy, Edith, Evelyn, Florence, Lenore, Louise, and Marion.
