The Ups and Downs of Pregnancy Part 2

It goes without saying; you have just created a tiny bundle of joy that you will meet in about 9 month’s time! What isn’t utterly fabulous about that?! Nothing we say!
However pregnancy does come with its ups and downs, so we thought we would explore both sides!
5 Things We Could Do Without During Pregnancy!

  1. Morning Sickness...Need we say more?
  2. Night cramps are also on our list of things we can do without! Ouch! If they occur, try to relax your legs and bring your toes towards your body until the pain passes.
  3. Some say heartburn is a tell tale sign that your baby will be born with hair. However it is generally a very common occurrence in most pregnancies, with increasing prevalence in the final trimester.

If you experience heartburn, try to eat smaller meals more often rather than three big meals a day. Try not to eat close to your bedtime and try to sit up straight after meals.

  1. Many pregnant women suffer from swollen feet, ankles, fingers and faces. Out the window goes your collection of perfect size 9’s in favour of a 9 ½....and you might need to pop your rings back in your jewellery box for a few months too!

To help reduce swollen feet and ankles, rest with your legs elevated as often as you can, avoid standing for too long and keep weight gain to a minimum.
Remove rings if your fingers start to swell, otherwise you might find that they need to be cut off!
Swelling is a very normal side effect of pregnancy, however severe swelling can be a sign of other complications, so always report any swelling to your doctor.

  1. As your belly grows, it can become harder to sleep comfortably.

Sleeping on your back and stomach is not generally recommended — on your left side is best. Try sleeping with a pillow between your legs and another supporting your belly to make you comfortable.

It’s definitely all worth it in the end! Click back to our Handy Hints page to view our Five Favourite Facts about being pregnant!
