What they never told us!

We often find that when mums get to chatting, a common topic pops up again and again. Here are 10 of the things that always come to our mind when we think about the things that “They” never told us about becoming a parent!

  • There is really no painless way to get a baby out...Really.
  • Your child will find ways to embarrass you more deeply than you have ever imagined possible, most commonly by lifting your skirt in a supermarket line, in front of a gazillion people.
  • Sleep, what sleep? I barely remember what that feels like....
  • You will inevitably run in circles, that is the minute you solve one issue, there is always something else waiting to be fixed.
  • Grocery shopping will never quite be the same experience again.
  • You will ask yourself, “Is this normal?” many, many, many times, and you will never really know the answer to that question.
  • You will learn to experience frustration on a whole new level. Imagine unpacking a dishwasher of sparkling clean dishes while behind you, child number 1 is smearing Vegimite down each one. Simultaneously, child number 2 is flinging mashed banana into your plush carpets while Dora the Explorer tries to teach you all Spanish.
  • There will be a day at some point after parenthood when you find yourself out in public and realise one or more of the following has occurred a) your shirt is inside out b) there is food on your shirt or c) you forgot to brush your teeth… and your hair.
  • All of those expressions you learned from your parents that you swore you would never repeat? You will say them to your child, and you will say them many, many times...“When I was YOUR age.....”
  • And the craziest thing is that we would do it all over again without hesitation. Despite all of the above!
